Ludlow Village $3.5M Bond Vote Nov. 18
LUDLOW -- Ludlow Village residents will be asked to go to the polls on Nov. 18 to approve $3,510,000 to
upgrade the town's water system.
A public information meeting on the upcoming vote will be held in the Ludlow Town Hall on Nov. 17.
If approved, water bills would go up by more than half their current rate.
According to a letter issued by the water commissioners, the current system was built 100 years ago and
no longer meets current flow and storage standards set by the state.
If approved, the project includes plans to build a second water storage tank near Andover Street. The
existing 600,000-gallon tank on Godfrey Hill supplies the industrial park part of town, but the narrow
diameter of the water mains prevents water to flow with enough force to the fire hydrants on the north side of
the village.
Also to be replaced are small water mains from Snell Hill Springhouse into the village, and some ancillary
mains as well.
The bond would be financed through a 40-year loan from USDA Rural Development at 2.7 percent, with
an annual payment $142,700. The payment would be equally divided among the 1,212 residential users,
costing about $118 per year. That means rates would rise from the current $140 a year to $220.
Polls open at the town hall auditorium at 10 a.m. and remain open until 7 p.m.
